Homestead exemption, state by state

Ten states, because ten states are what we measured demand for before writing anything. Each page answers its question in the first block, cites the page the answer came from, and links the counties whose own rule differs from the state's.

Why only these ten

A page is a claim that somebody is asking the question. We measured search demand for these ten states before building, and the four states where demand did not reach the county level get a state page and no county matrix — the reason is written on each of those pages. Filling in the other forty from general knowledge would produce forty pages of the thing this project exists not to be.

What this site is

HomesteadDeadlines is not a government website and is not affiliated with any appraisal district, assessor’s office or county tax office.

Applying for a homestead exemption with your county is free. We do not file it for you, we do not charge you anything, and we never ask you to pay to apply.

Deadlines and eligibility are set by the office named on each state and county page and are governed by its current notices. This page was verified on 2026-08-04.
